The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics trains students in the field of fundamental and applied issues of Informatics, and the use of modern information technologies in professional activity.

The Faculty undergraduate programs are in the following areas: Pedagogic education (Informatics and Mathematics); Applied Informatics; Records Management and Archival Studies; Land Management and Cadastre. Master programs are as follows: Pedagogic education (Informatics and Mathematics); Applied Informatics; Records Management and Archival Studies; Land Management and Cadastre.

The higher educational teaching personnel includes 22 teachers, four Doctors and 13 Candidates of Sciences among them.

Design, development and operation of electronic educational environment of the University is performed on the basis of our Faculty. The Faculty takes an active part in the target programs of regional education system.

The remote server-based educational technologies on the basis of Blackboard server are used in the educational process. Great attention is paid to the organization of research activity carried out by the students , who regularly take part in Russian and international scientific conferences, Olympiads, contests of scientific works of the young in the field of information technologies.

The Students participate in various sporting events, annual competitions  Club for the Lightheaded and Quickwitted (CLQ) , university contest   The Student of the Year  and  What? Where? When?” 

Structure of the Faculty

The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics is a structural unit of the Institute of Informatics. The Institute provides the University corporate telecommunication network development, as well as the spread of Internet technology, and carries out the training of specialists in the field of informatics.

The Faculty consists of:

  • The Department of Informatics and Information Systems;
  • The Departments of Higher Mathematics;

The Institute of Informatics include:

  • Internet Center;
  • training laboratory;
  • Research Laboratory of distant learning.

Career and employment

  • Graduates majoring in Pedagogic education work in the sphere of education and culture, computer and information centers, as well as in the social sphere.
  • Graduates majoring in the Applied Informatics work for data-processing and analytical centers, IT-departments of enterprises and the organizations, software developing companies working for enterprises of different branches of economy, in research institutes as database administrators, system and network administrators, software developers, Web designers, IT professionals, programmers for implementation and maintenance information products.
  • Graduates majoring in Referral Documentation and Archives work for Government bodies of federal, regional and municipal levels; bodies of archival and information management; State, municipal and private archives; State, public and commercial establishments as heads of personnel service or archive departments as archivists, information-analytical service staff, secretaries-assistants, head assistants.
  • The graduates majoring in Land Management and Cadastre work for the Federal State institution  Land Cadastral Chamber” and its affiliates; for territorial divisions of the Federal Real Estate Cadastral Agency Office; Bureau of Technical Inventory (BTI); for banks;for insurance, design and survey and realtor companies; for firms for privatization and property valuation; for property management committees in local administration as experts, specialists on inventory, investment project managers, analysts, specialists, appraisers-consultants.

The Department carries out educational work with students in two ways: by way of carrying out teaching process during the classes; by way of carrying out extra-curricular work in free time of students and teachers.

1. Supervisory control is maintained with a view to identify interests, inclinations, educational potential of the students, as well as discussing the issues of attendance, academic performance, interim attestation, preparation for exam session.

2. The Faculty carries out annual questioning of students, allowing to identify the difficulties encountered by students during study at the University, the level of their interest in the curriculum and in extra-curricular activities.

3. We organize:

  • exhibition of student posters  The 1st of April is the Maths Day”;
  • research seminar for graduate and post-graduate students;
  • Student Science week;
  • annual student scientific conference “Modern Mathematics and Computer Technology”.

Students take active part in University activities: The Knowledge Day, intellectual tournament “What?Where?  When?”, “Student of the Year”, Club for the Lightheaded and Quickwitted (CLQ), “the Young Politician”, “Miss  LSU , etc.

General provisions

  1. Research Laboratory of Distant Learning is a structural unit of the Institute of Informatics of Leningrad State University named after Alexander Pushkin (LSU named after A. Pushkin), it carries out its activity in collaboration with other units of the Institute of informatics.
  2. Research Laboratory of Distant Learning in its activity reports directly to the Director of the Institute of Informatics.
  3. Research Laboratory of Distant Learning is guided in its activities:
    • legislative and normative acts of the Russian Federation;
    • University Charter
    • Provision of Institute of Informatics.

The structure and staffing of the Research Laboratory of Distant Learning

  1. The structure, staff and number of members of the Laboratory are approved by the staff  schedule of Institute of Informatics upon the nomination of the Director of the Institute of Informatics,in due regard to the amount of work and specific activities.
  2. The Division is headed by the Head of the Laboratory, appointed by the Rector of Leningrad State University named after Alexander Pushkin on the nomination of the Director of the Institute of Informatics.
  3. The responsibilities of the Head of the Laboratory and its staff shall be determined by job descriptions.

Objective:  the development of scientific, educational-methodical provision and implementation of distance learning at different levels of the regional system of education (school, higher education, adult education, etc.).

Tasks:

Scientific work

  • Formation of the concept of distance learning.
  • The implementation of the unified educational system for distant learning platform in the University.
  • Organization of scientific seminars and conferences on the topics of the scientific fields developed;

Educational and methodical work

  • Preparation for publication of scientific and methodical literature on organization and carrying out of distant learning, on educational and methodological providing distance courses.
  • Development of distant learning educational resources and their implementation in educational process.
  • Verification of new educational technologies, innovative forms, methods and means of learning, modern methods of organizing independent work.
  • Formation of the support system for student research work, scientific and technical creativity of the young and research for school students.

Organizational work

  • Formation of normative requirements for process organization.
  • The choice of a united format of training materials. Formation of requirements to electronic teaching materials and recommendations for their formatting.
  • Organization of consultations for the University staff on preparation of educational resources and distant courses.
  • Organization of professional retraining and advanced training:
  • The higher educational teaching personnel for teaching in informational educational environment;
  • teachers and support staff to work with distant learning technologies in branches of the University and its representative offices.

Material and Technical Resources of the Research Laboratory of Distant Learning

Material and Technical Resources of the Research Laboratory of Distant Learning consist of premises and equipment allocated to the Institute of Informatics of the University as well as third parties on contract basis.

Educational institutions of Leningrad region are experimental pilot sites of the Laboratory.

Students of Extramural Department

Dear students, the conditions of the internship are changed:

1) two weeks before the start of the internship you should provide your Agreement for Internship (double-sided printing, triplicate) to the Dean’s Office. The Agreement is filled by the student, signed by the head of the organization and certified by a seal.
2) referral for internship is issued only after signing the Agreement for Internship.
3) after the end of the internship the following documents should be provided to the Dean's Office:

  3. Timetable
  4. Report on Internship (must meet the internship syllabus (see website)

Purpose: the formation of the modern firmware structure of computer classes and local network of Institute of Informatics.

Tasks:

  • Administration of access rights to resources on a local network of students and teachers.
  • Modernization and maintenance of firmware for computer classes of Institute of Informatics.
  • Introduction of new information technologies for educational process.

  • 8 computer classes equipped with multi-media projection technology;
